# Datemaster > Datemaster is a free macOS app that changes the creation date and the modification date of any file. For PDF, Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx) and PowerPoint (.pptx) files it also changes the dates stored inside the document, so the file and its contents agree. It runs entirely offline on macOS 13 Ventura or later, on Apple silicon and Intel Macs. ## Key facts - Name: Datemaster - Platform: macOS 13 or later, universal app (Apple silicon and Intel) - Price: free, no account, no subscription - Current version: 1.0.0 (20 MB) - Download: https://datemaster.onrender.com/downloads/Datemaster-1.0.0.dmg - Website: https://datemaster.onrender.com/ - Languages: the app and the website are in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean and Russian. ## What it does - Changes the created date, the modified date, or both, for any file type (photos, videos, documents, archives and more). - Also updates the dates inside PDF documents (Info dictionary and XMP) and inside Word, Excel and PowerPoint files (core properties). - Date presets (now, yesterday, last week, last month, last year), a calendar, and any time zone. - Can add a random gap of 1 to 5 minutes between files when changing several files at once. Seconds are always random. - Optional operating-system label stored in document metadata. It is a label, not proof of where a file came from. - Edits the original files (a backup is made first, and Undo restores them) or saves edited copies next to the originals. - Shows the old and new date of every file before updating, and reports any file that could not be changed. ## How to change a file's creation date on a Mac with Datemaster 1. Download and open Datemaster. 2. Drop the files on the window. 3. Pick the date and time. 4. Click Update. Finder cannot edit creation dates, and the Terminal command touch cannot set a creation date later than the existing one. Datemaster changes both dates without Terminal commands or developer tools. ## Privacy and safety - No network access, no analytics, no telemetry. Files never leave the Mac. - Every change is read back and verified. - Digitally signed, encrypted and PDF/A documents keep their contents untouched. Only their filesystem dates can be changed, and only if the user allows it. ## Installing 1. Open the downloaded DMG and drag Datemaster into Applications. 2. The app is not notarized by Apple yet, so the first launch needs one confirmation: System Settings, Privacy & Security, Open Anyway. ## Limitations - PDF edits are appended as an incremental update, so older revisions inside the file can still contain the previous metadata. - FAT drives store modification times in 2 second steps. - The status change time (ctime) of a file cannot be set by any app. ## Pages -
